It is rumored I will be re-united with “Ugly Helga,” my 1981 BMW R80G/S that has been resting in the dreaded dark, dusty, and dank archives of Bob’s BMW Museum. Ugly Helga was so named for having left me stranded, DOWN AND OUT http://www.motorbooks.com/books/Down-and-Out-in-Patagonia-Kamchatka-and-Timbuktu/9780760345832 in some of the ugliest places on the planet. With 240,000 miles on the odometer, some say Ugly Helga weeps when I look at it, thinking I may have another adventure planned using it. I tell them Ugly Helga is not capable of weeping tears but is leaking oils from the numerous bolt holes I stripped over the years.

Ugly Helga Confirmed
Confirmed that old (1981) Ugly Helga will be present at BOB'S BMW on Saturday, June 13, 2013
While at BOB's BMW I will be collecting "wild tales of motorcycle adventure" for a future publication. Attendees are invited to share stories secreted away, preferably unpublished, about expeditions/adventures/experiences from being on the road around the globe.
The multimedia show is scheduled from 12:00-1:00 PM and I'm slated to be in the showroom/museum for the balance of the day.
It's a free event and HU members are most "Welcomed" by BOB'S BMW in Jessup, Maryland.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
