I use google maps in most countries where it works, I think it has the best user interface. When google maps does not work (Iraq) I used maps.me. Both have offline map support.

HERE WeGo APP
If being used for the roads I well recommend the HERE WeGo app.
This is a free App and can be used 'Offline'. It will cope with route changes on the go, and recalculate whilst offline. Can be used in either Portrait or Landscape orientation.
I found out by accident that this is the platform used by BMW. My wifes car was in for service and the Navigation needed updating and they had forgot to do it, the technician came out did it before we drove off, whilst he was doing it I noticed the logo, did some research.
Just download the countries (it covers the world) you need and then make sure you have the use Offline tab selected, thats it.
What I really like is that it gives you advanced notice of a route deviation, and a count down to it.

I *liked* this post a while back but have since found that Outdooractive has descended into being absolutely awful - glitchy, unreliable and worst of all says you've downloaded maps for offline use, when you haven't - potentially quite dangerous.
It's a far cry from the comparably bullet proof Viewranger app that it sought to replace.
Anyone else found this?

I also use Magic Earth, available from the App Store.
You have to download the maps for your specific country, the same as Maps.Me, but I like it as is gives you terrain relief also

All of those Apps have a weak spot. If you update the app - you will often have to download the mapsource again.
So be carefull on updates - check if the maps are still on your phone bevore you start a new journey!
My current Appset for navigation
Road & turn by turn navigation
here.com
Track Orientation
Magic Earth
Track Navigation
Mapout

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
