Decent maps of Kenya...where?
Anyone know to what scale Kenya (esp south Kenya and N Tanzania) is mapped? I am heading for Stanfords at some stage but I am wondering what is available. Hoping for 1:25K or 1:50K..... Any experiences welcome!

Nowhere near the scale you're looking for, but Nelles do a 1:1.2mil map of Kenya which is pretty good.
International Travel Maps also do one for Kenya, although I think the scale will also be similar.

Thanks Geoff.
Ive got hold of the Nat Geog atlas of Africa which covers Kenya and Tanz nicely but I was hoping for something approaching OS standard, given that the place was inevitably mapped by the British, even though that was probably 40 years ago!
Thanks anyway

Have you tried a little something called the "Internet"?
after a few seconds on google I found this:
http://karten.staatsbibliothek-berli...sort=land_sort
I'm sure you could get better ones if you searched a little harder

A cow? How do you get milk from a cow? I thought milk came from a factory!
I don’t think you even get up-to-date 1:50K maps for Africa, except for the more developed countries like Botswana, Namibia and South Africa.

Your best bet, and I know it's a bit far for you to travel, is to go to the British Library in Kings Cross, London.
They have the most massive map section. I spent 3 days crawling around there once, researching maps for Libya, Egypt and Sudan.
I'm pretty sure that they'll have something there.
Alternately, have you got any contacts in the British army? As they still have training grounds in northern Kenya, they're bound to have something of use to you. (if they'll release them)

Mmmm yes, both are good plans. Thanks. I think a trip to London in the near future is in order (Im not in Cairo at the mo, Im back home in Blighty for a while)
Actually a TPC or similar would be as much use as anything for routeplanning....
