Garmin 182 Questions
Firstly sorry if these questions have been posted before but although I’m not a compete technophobe I’m very much a novice when it comes to chart plotter GPS’s.
I’ve got the option of buying a Garmin 182 for £100. Perfect working order with a boat GPS receiver.
It does NOT have a data card though.
So questions:
Can I utilise mapsource software with maps of Morocco?
Do I need a data card to upload maps and waypoints from Mapsource?
I guess any GPS receiver will work (don’t fancy bolting a dirty great white boat receiver on to my car!)
Will I be able to download maps / routes such as Olaf’s to my PC and then in to the 182?
Cheers,
Russ

I had a look at the specs here:
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=159
This is a marine unit and it appears it doesn't do auto-routing, which is one of the most useful features in a GPS, especially in cities. At 770g it's also quite heavy.

That's an external antenna and it uses a proprietary data card (= $$$).

Yes.

I can't determine that from the specs but I guess the answer is yes.

Yes, under 'Accessories' you will see a car antenna listed, which is just a small saucer.

Very likely yes.
However, buying a non-routing unit with an external antenna, with the old chipset (less accurate, slow) for road use seems pointless. If you are in a car buy any Nuvi. They are made for driving, have better receivers, use standard (= cheap) data cards, built-in antenna, auto-routing, the list goes on. By the time you buy a Garmin data card you will probably spend as much as the cheapest Nuvi costs new.
