Garmin emap
Has anyone used one of these mounted on a bike?
I am debating the comparative merits of this unit (reasonable cost, expandable memory) and the GPS V which seems to work well on bikes, has funky route finding feature (useful once I get back home) but is pricey and has a fixed amount of memory (and I am worried that the South America part of the Mapsource world map I intend to use will not fit).
All thoughts gratefully received.

Hi,
I have an Emap on my AfricaTwin, It suits me fine until now. I have it mounted in a Touratechmount next to my speedometer.
The Emap is not completely waterproof but i have had no problems with it yet and i even did several rivercrossings with it where it became REALY wet, just a few drops inside the batterycompartment.
The Emap is a nice (and not too expensive) way to get aquainted with GPS but it is generally just an electronic map. It doesn't have an autoroute-function so it just points you the direction in a sraight line.
If you have more questions, feel free to send me a mail

I had an eMap which I replaced with the GPS V.
If you plan to let the GPS do the navigating then the GPS V is far superior, however the memory limitation can be a problem in built up areas.
I would ask someone who has the maps for the area you are traveling in to select the area and see how much memory it is going to take up (shows at the bottom of the screen). If you can fit it in the V then I would go that route.
Best of luck!

Sorry - one last thing. One of the things that is important on a bike is that the emap is NOT waterproof - the GPS V is. You should consider that before making the purchase.

Thanks for the info. I went for the GPS V in the end. The maps I needed fitted easily and it is now helping me find my way around Argentina (only wish Garmin would update the Worldmap...).
