garmin gpsmap62s maps
Hi All,
I have currently gpsmap 60csx and i want to change it with gpsmap 62s. My questions are:
1- can I use the same maps which I am using on my 60csx on a 62s? or does the 62s different type of map formats?
2- can I upload the maps using mapsource or do i need to use a new software?
any other comments about 62s appriciated.
thanks a lot!

yes and no !
yes they use the same maps and format... but... you have to buy a new set of software.. regarding the "licence" that comes with it... a generated key-no will be stored and marriage up in combination of the unit and the software and generate a new key, which only allows you to upload and use the maps with that particular GPS unit, no dual use possible for the same licence !
whoever, if you are using the miniSD memory cards which containing the pre installed maps you are able to swoop between the units without problems.
well that's my 1-penny to the greedy Garmin policy...
yeah with crunching teeth I'm still using a 60xc with all it's limitations and bugs.. and haven't spend on a 62s so far... rather cope with what I have...

thanks for your reply spooky.
i have bought the gpsmap 62s today from rei.com. they have a sale at the moment and the price of 62s is $270 (comparing to $449 on garmin website). huge bargain. now i am comparing it with my old 60csx. in any means it is fast! there are some bugs in the software, but, i an sure that this issues will be fixed. i'll have a weekend escape to cape cod and will try the new 62s and compare it with 60csx.
by the way, they both use the same format of map.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
