You need the .mp files - easier to work with ... the .img files have too much processing done to them that you would need to undo.
You neded the two (or more) maps to have the same layers - both the 'zoom level' and the ranging thing set excactly the same other wise you get blank bits - on your 'blank map' try changing the level of view (control then the number - 0 for the bottom)
You are going to spend days on this .. once you accept that you'll be fine.
Ther is a yahoo group on 'map authors' ... could be of use to you.

Free map of Ukraine

You install to c:\garmin\ukrajina\*.*
Be carefully - path must be accurate!
Run ukrajina.reg
If you put files to other pass, Mapsource will death. But if you clear added key from register, MapSource will be OK.

Any updates on those Ukraine links? They seem to be dead.
And anyone have anything on Russia?

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
