Group Discount on Garmin V
I'm looking to buy a Garmin V within the next couple of weeks and am based in London. I wondered if anyone else was about to do the same - if we were to club together I think we could negotiate a resonable discount on the £420 they seem to be going for . . . .

Hi Heuy, I am thinking of getting a V as well, but probably in the next 4 weeks, i will use it for africa then Australia (home). I still have not decieded yet if i will buy one from OZ with a OZ base map or EU basemap, just letting you know of my intentions. I have a Garmin e-map at the mo with europe metro guide and will sell that first to buy the V.
Cheers Gazza.

How about buying them from the USA? Garmin V is around $400US (250GBP, 350EURO), a big saving.
Two problems I foresee:
1. You get the USA base map instead of the one for Europe, but seeing as the some of people on this site are talking about Africa and Asia, this shouldn't matter.
2. Customs duties. I wonder does anyone have experience of this?
Some cheap sites I found were:
http://store.yahoo.com/htessentials/gargpsvdelpa.html
http://www.gpsnow.com/
http://www.tvnav.com/index.html
Of course, there's e-bay as well, where the prices are about the same, but you might be able to work out a way around objection 2 above.

sorry I haven't responded Imadan - are you still here and still looking to buy?
I'd kind of hoped for more responses - the good folk down Tottenham court road indicated they'd be prepared to offer a discount on 5 plus units. Even with just a couple of us might get little off. I am planning on phoning around and attempting to play them off against each other. The cheapest on offer seems to be at http://www.gps4less.co.uk/Automotiveindex.htm#SPIII - £416-50 inc VAT and P&P. It would be nice, at least physiologically to get it for less than £400 . . . . .
I'm mailing you directly Imadan.
Simon - thanks for you responce - I looked into this but do want the European basemap (apparently its fantastic) - and apparently you can't change the basemap - which amounts to the usual UK stich up ,. . .
cheers,
Huey
