I have no laptop or the Garmin CD

How can i upload map to my GPS. i have the USB cable you plug in the GPS.

Can i go internet cafe and down load a program and map ? I don't mind buying maps, Witch is the best and easiest?

Any help would be great.

I have done this using Mapsource; however you could try using Google maps to plan your route. Use GPS Visualizer to convert the .kml file to a .gpx file which you can upload to your GPS unit.

Gidday,

How did you get T4A into your unit then?

Here is one way how to get OSM maps into your GPS:

Head to Worldwide routable Garmin maps from OpenStreetMap. Click all the map tiles you want, enter your email and submit. Wait a few minutes (usually) until a notification email arrives in your inbox. Open it and click the link. On the page you will be presented with three downloads: for Mac, for MapSource and a file called GPSMAPSUPP.IMG. Download the latter.

Connect the GPS and put it into mass storage mode, it should appear as a drive on the PC. If not you either need to download and install the USB drivers from Garmin (admin rights required on the PC), or connect your GPS' memory card to the PC directly, via a card reader.

In the Garmin folder rename the existing GPSMAPSUPP.IMG to something else. These are your existing maps. Then put the new file into the same place.

When you quit mass storage mode the new maps will appear. You can see the maps online at OpenStreetMap.

Cheers,
Peter,
Arrived in Akl a week ago and still waiting for customs...

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
