Montana in night mode

A numpty question: I am a new Montana owner still getting used to the device. I have downloaded OSM UK map and been practising on runs to work in the car. This is fine during the day.

When I leave work on a night, however, the unit auto switches to night mode. When the backlight times out I cannot see the screen as it is too dark. I know I can set for day mode, but would have thought the screen should be visible in night mode. Is it possible to change screen brightness in night mode? Or is it something else?

The unit isn't plugged into a power socket. Unsure if that makes any difference?

Thanks for any help.

Dave

If you haven't already seen this site:

http://garminmontanagpsr.wikispaces.com/

it is full of useful information. There's a time out for switching from bright to less dependent on the setting, which is here:

Thanks for the link John. Leaving the backlight on would be an option, as would switching to day mode, but still seems odd that the screen is too dim to see in night mode...

Did you try with another map? OSM maps with the mapnik TYPE file only change the names on the map from black to yellow form day to night mode.

Tap the on / off button once to adjust the backlight. If the Montana is in the car powered mount / motorbike one, you can also adjust the volume level as well.
