osmand app for trans euro trail?

Hi guys, so im excited by the transeurotrail ! they have alledgedly a 2.5gb file of gpx points. When i try and download it though, all i can get is a 2 kb disc image file that osmand cant find.

I think im being stupid here expecting what they say is a OSM set of data to work in the OSM app, can anyone suggest a way of doing this ?

im realy reluctant to buy a garmin, i like using the andoid phone for maps. Im not a tech genius, but am familiar enough with windows pcs. Its realy frustrating

So the gpx files can be found under each individual country, the full load of gpx in the image file is only for garmins im told. Its not obvious to me but proabably is to most readers.

anyway, with the gpx file in the osmand/files/tracks, osmand can see it but wont let me select it or show it, itself. its bloody there why wont osmand open it. it ses you have no gpx files, when there is a gpx file on the next screen ffs

I wouldn't bother with an app that is not easy to use

The people developing the Trans Europe Trail have asked that the beta type route data that has been circulating to date should not be used until they have made their finalised version (test versions have been in use by some folk who have been asked to do just that, test the route data).

For an app that handles gpx files; there are a few such as backcountrynavigator or viewranger.
Personally, I have never bothered to do suchlike, but if I did want to then the nav app that I use has online directions:-

OSMand does do gpx files.. you just have to look for the directions.
Personally I'd set the program to record a gpx file .. then let it record a gpx file Then I'd see where it put the gpx file and put the other gpx files in the same location.
You want more help? Then it might be wise to ask on another form that specialises in OSMand??? Or at least look for the on line instructions.. and if you have done that already .. show what you have done, including links to the instructions??

2.5Gb is a very very large gpx file ... most maps are less than that! ... I'd start with something a lot smaller, and use that to learn what to do.

osmand is a nice map, its only 'fat finger' users like me who have trouble with making it work, presumably theres a majority of map app users out there who are very happy to programe their own python blah c* deltas.

Anyway the answer is that the gpx files have to be opened from a seperate app like 'file commander' or similar, with osmand, if that makes sense. Then they are 'found', the map updated and can be used from the file in osmand.

obviously having messed around with the settings ive lost other maps and the thing is hanging way more than it used to.

The osmand product support mail was really good and got back to my screams within an hour or two.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
