Problem with routing on Basecamp

I am having a bit of problem with routing on my Basecamp.
I down loaded the OSM Generic routable (new style) for Europe. Put in on to mini SD card in a folder called Garmin, opened the Basecamp programme and it read the map not problem. However when I come to try and do a route on it, it is taking as the crow flies and not along any off the roads.
A bit strange as used OSM Generic routable in Thailand and Laos and doing a route was fine (although it was not the new style)

This is the route it did me from the Europort to Berlin
Any ideas on rectifying it?

Wayne

Different possibilities.
- make sure you have the latest version of basecamp, older version have known and published routing bugs
- make sure your device is set to the correct routing option (not "offroad")
- sometimes map-filenames may conflict. Either disable/remove the generic world map or rename the files. Garmin allows:
gmapsupp.img
gmapbmap.img
gmapprom.img
gmapprom1.img
gmapoem.img
- redownload your OSM map
- there may be a problem on the route (usually very near start or finish of route) so retry different parts of the route
- for some devices long routes are a problem. try limiting the sections to 100km to see where the problem is.

good luck...

Occasionally get the same problem with the OSM on a Garmin. Always solved by reducing the stage length as previous poster suggested. One thing I have to try and remember is to end a stage between towns by manually selecting a point - otherwise I wonder why the stupid thing is taking me right into the centre of a town instead of sticking to the main road.

good luck...

I have just done an update to the latest version
Not using off road routing, I also tried it in 4 wheel routing instead of motorbikes and I am also using a correct file name.
I will try and use a smaller leg. I am also in the queue for getting the original generic routable version

Thanks

Wayne

I have re-installed basecamp in case that was the problem, it wasn't

I have checked all my other downloads from OSM mapping and all my old downloads from months ago work fine and are routable, Thailand & Laos, Sth America and my Russia Kazakstan Mongolia downloads all work

All my recent downloads in the last three days which is Europe split in to 3 as the file was too big do not work ( all on separate SD Cards) two of the files a 3GB and the other is less than a gig

Strange?! Any ideas

Wayne

Edit.... I have tried doing a manual route and that works, it just won't do it automatically using two waypoints...confused.com
