QLandkarte GT and or Linux users.

Hello people,

Im using a Garmin Zumo 660 & thanks to Colebatch`s post i have successfully installed OSM ages ago & it works fine.

My problem is im running Linux (Ubuntu/Mint) and am having problems finding software that i can edit routes with.

After much research i found QLandkarte GT & successfully installed it on my Linux PC, problem is i cannot get maps to load, well i can get them to load (i think) but they are not visible.

Has this got something to do with tiles (don’t laugh) i think this is where i may be going wrong, it was so much easier on a Windows PC & Google maps.

Its not really a biggie as like i said i have all of Australia OSM`s on the Zumo it would just be nice to create POI & weypoints etc etc.

Any Linux users out there on the HUBB? how do you do it?

Cheers,

Mezo.

It has been a while since I've used it myself (I tend to dual-boot or run windows with Basecamp in a VM if the device is fast enough), but QTLandkarte-GT is definitely the right choice for Linux.

What have you tried so far? I am not sure you can load maps from a device directly into QTLandkarte like Basecamp does. But if you got your OSM maps from garmin.openstreetmap.nl there should have also been a zip file with all the map tiles. That's what you need for QTLandkarte. Unzip it into a seperate directory somewhere and open the .tdb file from the software and in the second step of loading the maps, select the file with the same name as the tdb but an _mdr.img extension. That should make the entire map visible.

Also make sure you're on the latest version of QTLandkarte.

Thank you,

Yes dual boot is going to be easier than trying to emulate windows in Linux (via Wine) it never works as its supposed to.

I did try Basecamp in wine but it just shit itself

I will try the tiles option first as i don't want to go back to Windows, but thanks for your advice.

Mezo.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
