Showing your actual route on your blog

Hi together,

first of all, SORRY to open a new thread, i'm sure there must be a bunch of threads about this, but i couldn't find any? (too much ?)

I'm wondering what you guys are using to show your actual route on your blogs (those who have one)?!?

I've seen a lot of different ways how people show their actual track
- Photo of Real World Map painted with thick red pen
- Google Maps Route (using many Destinations)
- Google Earth Screenshot from imported KMZ files
- Usage of rather big communities that offer blogs with included gps tracking
- More or less well done custom implementations

All of the visualizations i've seen have their major drawbacks, a lot of work, just average routes, ...

My question is, isn't there any nice (free!) system that can be included in my blog where i get an application to upload my tracks from (different brand) gps devices where the tracks get automatically compressed and uploaded to somewhere that it will show nicely on a map (on my blog)?

I myself am a .NET Programmer, and i already put a lot of effort in building my own system, but it's far away from "easy to use" and has no compression (recalculation of tracks), so i might run out of space soon (i'm using google fusion tables to store my tracks). Not to mention all the bugs

To get a better understanding what i'm searching for you can have a look here: 1World2Go |

It's still in Alpha stage and i'm testing around a lot, so don't be confused about "USA2012" being in Europe :P

Any hints welcome.

Cheers
Moritz

You might want to consider using the Google API, and maintain on your site a list of coordinates that the map displays. I found Mike Williams' Google Maps API Tutorial to be a really good site, full of examples and source code, that can be used to see how the API works.

With Spot Messenger you can show live map in your homepage.
Only problem with it is that it will show only max 7 days route.

Yes, this is also nice.
I guess it has same limitation as Spot messenger tracking system that it supports max 7 days?
So, on a long trip if you do not have internet connection, you will loose your tracklog.
Please, correct me if I am wrong.

If you save it to SPOT adventure it stays there it does not go away after 7 days.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
