Arabic word for diesel ?
I'm preparing my 110 HT for a trip to Ghana and would like to write the Arabic word for diesel next to the fuel cap. Anyone know of where I can get hold of the word.
TIA
Ian

it depends which "arabic" you mean , in Morocco it is definately "Mazout" which is a french word , and anyone understands it , in northern Morocco they might have a spanish name for it in their dialect instead but they must understand the french one ...

If you try to read the arabic signs normally, it looks like 'Iglo'.
(you can really recognise it)

Brilliant, thanks for that.
Please excuse my ignorance, but would this be understood in all Arabic speaking countries?
Thanks

I was very interested to see the Arabic word for Diesel, do you have the Arabic word for Petrol. My 1982 Series Land Rover is petrol and it is a constant battle trying to explain to petrol attendants that it is a petrol engine and not diesel. I have written "petrol" in English and "Essence"
in French by the petrol cap but an Arabic word would also be good.
Thanks v.Much!

Andy,
Petrol is a generic name for the fuel that drives all modern combustion chamber engines and not necessarily only gasoline driven ones, it can also mean diesel driven ones. To be more specific you might want to use Benzene instead of Petrol, so people will not inject Diesel in your vehicle’s engine and screw it up. So in the Arab countries Benzene is equivalent to Petrol in the UK.. I guess.

Thanks for the translations. Excellent, I believe that this will also be useful for many others on the site. I actualy live in Slovenia and the word for the English word "Petrol" is "Bencin" so makes perfect sense.
Thanks and cheers,
Andy
