Yves, you're right on the TPD...I checked my passport and the Algerian customs guys stamped the TPD number on there at entry and exit, BUT I couldn't find any insurance documentation in my souvenirs.
I agree, the Algerians on the Niger border in In Guezzam were very friendly and helpful...no issues...definitely different than the Mauritanians
One of my favorite countries of my trip...would love to return there!
Another thing to remember about the Carnet...although it is not required, it does help in translating your vehicle information for them, as it looks official and has a French translation of the information.
