Drone Strike, Western Sahara
FYI received this alert today:
Two civilians were killed and another injured on 12 September in a drone attack near the village of Gleibat El Fula in Western Sahara. Those killed in the drone strike were artisanal gold miners from neighbouring Mauritania. No authority has claimed responsibility for the strike, although the Moroccan military has previously been responsible for drone strikes on civilians in areas close to Mauritania.

Maps by the UN as well as wiki put the the village of Gleibat El Fula just inside Moroccan territory, but I suppose it could also refer to a region.
The 1958 RIM map and older IGNs covering Spanish Sahara show a 'Gleibat El Foulé' hill about 60km to the south, but still well inside today's Berm. You wouldn't think Morocco would bomb there, either.
Either way, it seems it occurred at a hard to specify location on the SADR-RIM border and the same happened a year ago. Perhaps it is in the narrow SADR, corridor north of the RIM railway border and Moroccan WS. That might make Morocco twitchy.

Well spotted, that's the sort of region I assumed, but it's a bit harsh [Morocco] droning over 100km from the berm, isn't it?
Maybe Mk wants to suppress any kind of mineral exploitation in the PFZ, even if it is artisanal, the same way they sought to discourage commercial trucks taking a short-cut across PFZ north towards Tindouf (by the same means).
UN and 1958 maps.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
