Egypt to Jordan ferry more expensive
People wanting to take the ferry from Jordan (Aqaba) to Egypt (Nuweiba) might want to know prices have gone up:
50US$ / Person
190US$ / car
This is for the slow ferry (leaving around midnight in this direction). Add 10US per person and per car for the fast ferry (leaving around noon)
FYI, there is a departure tax of 5JD per person and 5 JD per car when leaving Egypt
What you need to pay to get into Egypt:
11EP Road tax (bikes seem to be excempt of this)
505EP Customs tax & car license
80EP license plate
25EP for making a file
545EP insurance
So it is true, they have gone mad on the insurance now. They basicly charge the 1 year fee no matter how long you stay. Although you pay for one year, the insurance will only be valid for the period your visa is valid.
Same for the car license. Only valid for how long your visa is valid.
The visa you get at the border (15US/person) is valid for maximum 1 month. If you want to stay longer and thus extend your visa (cheap), you also have to extend you car license and insurance and thus having to pay the 505EP + 545EP again!!
So, do not make the same mistake as we did and pay some extra bucks for a 3 month visa in an embassy abroad before entering the country. It saves you 180US$!
All in all this has costed us 550US$ for 1 car and two persons. And a night without sleep...
Horribly expensive :-(
