Hi canoeguy,

There is no such thing, neither a ferry nor a ro-pax connection. To Israel would be impossible due to the political situation anyway, but to Jordan also does not exist.

The only two options you have are shipping from Suakin (some 60 kilometers south of Port Sudan) on a normal car ferry to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia (see detailed threads on the HUBB - but you do need a carnet!), or to search for a freighter heading for Aqaba. This is not impossible but takes a lot of time and will certainly not be cheap! The more time you invest to search for a captain who would agree to take you and the car on a small freighter (some travelers have managed), the better your chances are. A container would be more comfortable, but you would not be able to join the trip and it is rather expensive.

Greetings,
Achim

Try to check this with the automobil club in Khartoum. We also heard about traavelers picking up a Carnet in Sudan, but they had been told that this was possible IF you already had a Carnet that was expired. Our fixer in Wadi Halfa (Mazar) told us that if you didn't have a Carnet for Egypt, the fixer in Aswan could order one from The Emirates. Not sure what is right here, so my tip is to try to verify with the issuing authorities.

Question MotorcycleProblems

Hello, my friend and I are currently travelling through Africa and we do not have a Carnet for Egypt. To get one seems quite expensive and with the added cost with getting the plates and everything switched over. We are currently looking for an alternate, cheaper way to get to Jordan. The Transit Visa through Saudi Arabia will not work since they will not allow you to cross with motorcycles. Anyone with updated information that relates to this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

CapeTownNorth - did you manage to work something out for getting to Jordan from Sudan? I'm looking at doing the same thing and as a woman am concerned about transitting Saudi if my brother can't join me.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
