Fuel Prices Resource
I'm trying to put together a fuel price table for overlanders, and it would be great if anybody in the Saharan region at the moment, or who has recently returned could let me have latest prices.
Any info would be gratefully received, but I would dearly love to gather the following info:
Country
Location (City and/or GPS point)
Diesel Price (in local curency)
PetrolPrice (in local curency)
Local Currency
Date info was good for
Other info (availability, if there is a fixed fuel price, dirty fuel, jerricans only, etc)
PLease let me know if you think there is other info that would be useful.
The resource is hosted at:

thanks,

just what I was looking for before I set out - however it's wildly inaccurate - the data seems to be at least a year old which may be the problem.
So anybody out there with accurate info - please send it in....

Yep .
Morocco has 3 main fuel price areas.
a) Northern than TizNit . Standard (mostly European) prices
b)Beetween TizNit and TARFAYA ther are sligty cheaper petrol / DIESEL . 80% than on the North .
South of TARFAYA PLATJE (Beech) up to the last Fuel Station (200 kms South of "Dackla Junction") prices are heavily subsidized and you can count on find petrol and diesel up to 50 % of the prices on the North.
Some people noticed that the cheapest ever fuel in W.Sahara is in Dackla (town ) , but it hardly compensates for those extra 80 kms.
-note that cheapo fuel starts a few miles (20) AFTER TARFAYA. There are loads of petrol stations then . Do not fill up in Tarfaya town.
ONE NOTE OF CAUTION . I have seen people ... who -by trying to enter Mauritanian with the bigest possible ammount of cheap fuel- wait until the very last petrol Station in W.Sahara . It may be the case -as often is- that the last petrol Station is empty /out of diesel / just closed , etc....
My advice is to fill up the car & jerrys in any of the 5 petrol stations beetween Dackla and f. Guerguerat .. and do not count on the last one (50 kms from the border) , as it may not be operative.
I have the GPS coords of all the Petrol Stations (as of Apri 2003 ) from Tarfaya to Nouadibou , if anyone is interested.
Have fun ........

Great info, thanks M_C.
I'm a taker on the GPS coords for those stations, + prices if you've got them. My vehicle can carry 260l without jerricans, so it's almost worth planning the route with fuel stations in mind.
Now all we need is a database of GPS coords of automatic bank machines, and what cards they have worked with.
Happy travels
Luke

July 29, 2003.
Location: Egypt
Diesel Price: 0.4 L.E. 0.06 $
Petrol Price: 1 L.E. 0.15 $
Local Currency: L.E. = Egyptian Pound
Current Exchange rate: 1 $ = 6.42 L.E.
Petrol prices are for 90 octane fuel which is available pretty much every where with the exception of Farafra Oasis and some small town on the Red Sea.
95 octane petrol fuel is available in few gas stations in Cairo and Alexandria and costs 1.6 L.E.
Dirty fuel is less of a problem nowadays, but you better carry a couple of Injection Cleaners bottles.
Since June fuel must be sold in the vehicle gas tank only. To fill jerry cans, gas stations are instructed to take your ID or passport information and turn it over to the police. This is a rather new, and needlessly annoying, security measure and it remains to be seen how it will be enforced. This might be a problem when filling up a large amount of jerry can for a desert expedition. I will find out when the season starts this Autumn.
