Goodyear G90's

Does anyone outhere have any experience of Goodyear G90's? The Land Rover I have just purchased is fitted with an almost new set - am off on a trip around Spain, Portugal and then on to Morocco for 4-6 months starting around Oct-Nov.
How do they perform on tarmac and how suitable would they be for Morocco - where I understand it to be mostly gravel and rock.
Any comments are most welcome
thanks

IMHO G90s would not be the best tyres for your trip, being copies of Mich XS sand tyres. They will work OK in Morocco as long as its dry, but as you say, there is little sand there so they're wasted. And they will not be secure on wet tarmac.. These sort of tyres are also very noisy on tarmac. But they will do the job - just take it easy on the rocky climbs and wet motorway bends.

enjoy Maroc

Are you sure we are talking about the same tyres here - the ones I referred to are used by the Army as their standard tyre, and seem more like an A/T than a sand tyre.
thanks

Hi Chris, I must be wrong then but G90 rang a deserty bell and I know Good Year do an XS copy. As long as it's not a horrible Army cross-ply bar grip then I'm sure it will be fine in Morocco.

G90s are indeed the new standard tyre for british army LRs. They are a fairly aggressive mud tyre pattern, but suprisingly not too bad on the road (have travelled a fair few miles with them on a 90)They would be fine in Morocco on the gravel, as they have an 8ply sidwall to stop them getting cut up too badly. However, take sand ladders as you'll need them lots in the desert! have fun. Richard M

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
