Guide in Lybia
Hi,
I'm going to Lybia in September (hopefully) and read in Chris Scott's web site that seems that there is no longer the need to take a lybian guide. Is this true? As anyone gone there without a guide?
Regards,
NCR

Hi,
I was in Lybia last January with two cars and the rule was that you must have not only a guide but also a "touristic" policeman from the border (Ras J'dir) till the end of the journey. No exceptions found on the way, but in Lybia all is possible. You MUST have anyway an official invitation by a local agency written in Arabic with your names, car plates and route to show to the checkpoints or you will have a lot of problems.

does anyone (other than the Colonel?) know if a UK passport holder can enter Libya near Ghat, coming from Tin Alkoum in Algeria? I've met people who have gone the other way and the Algerian police told me the Libyan border is one way: exit only for Europeans. that said, I left Algeria, went up to the Libyans and was politely turned back because I didn't have a Libyan visa. (so I re-entered Algeria.) my FEELING was that the Libyan customs might have let me in if I'd had a visa. have any European passport holders tried and succeded? thanks
