Libya - Niger border crossing
Planning to cross from Libya into Niger late September. According to Arkno and Shati Zuara the border is closed to tourists at the moment.
Has anyone recently driven Al Qatrun - Madama? Did you have any trouble getting through customs? I guess you can always try to sneek around customs but not sure if that's such a brilliant plan with poor security in that part of the Sahara.

Hi Camiel,
I'm also planning to cross from Al Katrun to Madama by late September.
I have had the same information from Libyan agencies.
However, I have contacted a Niger agency, which told me that, probably, they could come and get us at Al Katrun.
I think that this solution could ease up the Libyan authorities. Most certainly, they do not want us to wonder around in a rather sensible area at the moment.
Leaving with a guide in Al Katrun should easy the process.
If you are interested in coming along and splitting the costs, e-mail me directly.
Cheers,
José

Following two agencies have now confirmed to me that it is possible to cross the border:
- Libyen Tours (Ludger Trier)
- Alawi Tours
Of course things can change in the mean time!

Hi All,
We are also hoping to cross through Libya to Niger in October. We are getting some assistance at the moment from Arkno Tours and here in the UK, from Libyan Tours (11 Britannia House, London W6 OLH), contact Dr Ahmed 0208 620078 or mobile 07860 620 078.
So far however he's told us that there hasn't been anyone undertaking this route, but feels that there is a local agency that might be able to help, Cezan Tours.
He's coming back with a price tomorrow. I don't suppose that any of you have had prices etc from any of these companies?
And what do you currently know about guides?
Paul
