Midelt is in the middle of two mountain ranges, and very close to the biggest, so hardly a fair example. Also 'south' in Moroccan terms means south of the mountain ranges.
So in Mhamid, Tata & Tan Tan it could be extremely hot, and very unpleasent if you break down (especially on a piste). I suspect like many people, when there you will alter your plans and head for the hills or coast like the Moroccans do. But your on the cusp, so it may start to cool down a bit. As you head out of the mountains and into the desert you'll get a feel for it.
If it is too hot, but you have to travel anyway, get up at 5am, travel till about 10am and then lie about for the rest of the day in the shade sampling local produce ;-)
