Pictures of trans Tenere migration
There is an interesting set of pictures on the bbc website about the migration of people through west Africa (Agadez, Tenere, Dirkou etc)

Interesting that the population of Dirkou seems to be controlled (8K max).
They suggest on slide 9 that the route goes from Dirkou to Algeria. I'd be surprised if this is correct. From Dirkou to Algeria would take one up to Chirfa and the long and lonely balise route across the northern Tenere to Djanaet.
Instead, the actual route almost certainly goes north along the Marlboro piste to Libya, no?
