Siwa - Bahareya
Its a good track- watch for sharp rocks this time of year (sandstorm season) - the locals call it the Road of Knives, and with reason - some stretches are a tyre-killer. Siwa is lovely, though 'modernising' sadly. Bahareya and Farafra are great places, Farafra more so really. If you are feeling adventurous you can carry on from Bahareya to Fayoum over the desert, though unless you loop south and follow an old caravan route to Beni Suwef and hook north it's all off-piste driving, and the washouts from the Jebel Qatrani massif west of Cairo make the going very rough unless you have a vehicle with good axle articulation. Last time I was on that route I took a Defender 110 and a Wrangler - the Wrangler found the going very difficult.
