You will have anecdotal violent events in Tunisia such as is the case in London, Paris, or Miami. There's a lot to visit and it all depends on what you like. The Southern part of Tunisia is now kinda off limit due to the proximity with Libya. You can go to Douz and Ksar Ghilane for some desert riding, but it is most likely as far South as you'll go. But from there you can head East and do some fun and easy desert tracks followed by asphalt up to the Island of Djerba. Tunisia is very rich in history from the Roman era. Then there was World War 2. Look for "Pista Rommel". A concrete road built by Germans to move trucks from the lower land to the mountains during the 1943 North African campaign.

People there are very friendly and they love motorcyclists. I was called several times a Touareg by locals because I was traveling alone on my motorcycle. ;-) Also, you will meet many guards posted at entries of small towns. They are there to filter the bad guys. So, don't be offended if you have to present your passport over and over. Often, these guards will offer fruits, water, milk. I have actually never seen guards as friendly as in Tunisia and Morocco. In large cities such as Tunis, cops dressed as civilians and working in team of two can sometimes be very cocky though. Stay calm. Hold your stand but show some openeness. With a large smile. ;-)
And the only area I would avoid is Kasserine. You can go thru. Just don't stick there.
