A good route from Florida to Tennessee

Hey everybody I've been lurking in these forums for a while and its time I seek some advice from the wise people here.

I've done a couple of trips around Europe and Africa and loved it to bits. However I fancy a bike trip in a America for two weeks as I would like to explore and visit some friends in Tennessee.

I'm from England and I have been looking into transport in America. I have read from a couple of threads that hiring a bike is expensive and shipping my bike over is very expensive and somewhat pointless (only there for two weeks). So I think this leaves me with buying a bike over there.

Is it possible to go to a dealers in Florida and buy and insure a bike there and then as go?

Also what would be a nice route to go from Southern Florida to Columbia in Tennessee?

Thanks for taking the time to read my ramble and I look forward to any help

some thoughts

hey sounds like a fun trip.. i would just advise to stay off interstates.. try to hit the backroads as much as possible, you will find them much more scenic..hwy 27 is a nice road not too fast 55mph from dothan alabama all the way through chattanooga tennessee.... if you have plenty of time try the natchez trace its out of the way, but closed to heavy truck traffic and really pretty..

How much time do you have to make the trip? Also, what sort of bike. road only or dual sport.

If you get into the Tennessee / North Carolina area, you have to go "do the Dragon". It's the man-law. 318 curves in 11 miles....

(if you don't know about the Dragon, follow this link):

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
