Bike shop wanted
Have spent a couple of months traveling round some of the US. What a big country. At present I have my bike parked up in San Francisco while I come home to NZ to do some chores etc. I fly back to the US on the 26th December and plan on heading south, to see a bit more of the country, before crossing into Mexico and further south. What I would like, is any suggestions of bike shops (friendly and helpful) where I can get a new set of tires and a good service of my wee strom, before I cross into Mexico. Anywhere below the snow line east to western shores does not bother me as I intend to see more of the countryside. Any suggestions greatly received.

I suggest you take a look in the recommended workshops section of this website.
There are some recommendations in the North Amer bit and here's the one for south of the border (may be cheaper):-

Without knowing any specific mechanics, I would suggest to service the bike in the greater metropolitan Los Angeles area down into San Diego somewhere. Competition among the shops due to there being so many of them competing for customers should keep the prices reasonable.
There is a mechanic just across the border in Algodones, Baja Norte, Mexico near where I live, who works out of his home; but I have used him, and another friend, who recommended him to me, has used him several times.
If you wanted to cross the border into Mexico this way, I could get prices for you for those items from him. Tell me the service you need, too, if you are interested.

Thanks guys for the info. I have usually done my own oil changes etc, but want another set of eyes to go over the wee before I head south.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
