Canada coast-to-coast $$ (again!)
Hi all.
I know this "how much" question has come up many times on this board. I have a good idea, thanks to this site, of travel budgets for nearly every country except Canada!

I am planning a 2-up trip across Canada this summer. Basically, Toronto to BC/Yukon. I'm alotting 45 days to do this. If we have sufficient funds left, we will do the Atlantic provinces.

I am budgeting $135 CAD/day for the two of us (fuel, food, misc, and a combo of camping and cheap motels/b&b's).

Can anyone pipe in on their budgets/average expenditures for a cross-Canada trip?

I have lived in Toronto my whole life and I am familiar with the costs, based on some 2-3 day trips in Ontario. This is my first 'big trip' and would like to know where my budget falls with repsect to the rest of the country.

About all I can say without knowing more detail of how you plan to live is that campgrounds in Alberta, with showers will run you anywhere from $15 - $20 per night. Less if you want more primitive however given what appears to be a full schedule I would advise going for the showers.

Your own experience with fuel consumtion on your 3 day trips should give you an idea of fuel and food costs for this roughly 9-10 thousand Kilometer sojourn keeping in mind fuel prices in the north or some tourist spots will be about 25% higher than you are used to.

Your best deals in Alberta will be small towns. Often they have a campground right in town at a low cost and if you hit the farmers market day you can get great deals on the days food.

I just came across this trip which may be of some help to you in figuring your distance to travel. It appears acording to these actual figures that I may have been rather conservative in my original guess.

These folks covered 9540 Km. one way from Hamilton to Anchorage.

Anyway I thought you might want to have a look.
