europe to us by ship
I'm trying to get info on shipping my bike and myself to the west coast this summer. I've heard it's possible to book on a freighter with your bike. Anyone know anything?

West coast ? That will be a long trip, via the suez canal. Summer will be over.
Get the RoRo from Liverrpool to Halifax, Canada, with WWWW www.2wglobal.com . They also go from Southampton.
I posted details on the trip planning section recently

Fly it don't ship it! Why because it will cost about $50 to retrieve it from customs by air and about 300 by ship, so check out total cost before you decide. We only paid about £100 more to send by air and we got bike immediately.
We are sending bikes back to UK by ship

JC quoted £1500 to fly 1 bike to Halifax. We sent by RoRo for £700, and yes $300 to get out of port. That was fees and agent fees ($160) for agent. The bikes were ready when we arrived, 2 hours to get to agent and leave Halifax.
You don't need an agent, but time was against us. I( do agree flying is quicker, but costs appear to be soaring (pun intended).
In 2010 it was only £900 to fly to Toronto. And £650 by sea.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
