looking for a motorbike in BC Canada summer 2016

hi,

We will return to Canada BC and go al the way east. We still have 1 motorbike in BC and I want to buy a 2de hand bike for myself.
If anyone has a good bike for sale, let me know.
bmw 650 (1 cylinder) looks perfect to me! Honda can be also good.
KLR is to high for me

Kind regards,
Ils

Hello Johan & Ils, if you don't have any luck with finding one from a member here check out Craigslist Vancouver or Kijiji for bikes.

vancouver, BC motorcycles/scooters - craigslist

Bmw Motorcycles | Kijiji: Free Classifieds in British Columbia. Find a job, buy a car, find a house or apartment, furniture, appliances and more!

Check these links and use the sort or search functions to narrow your search.

The Suzuki DR650 is also a popular option and I see many here already set-up for travel. Expect to pay around $4,000 -$4,500 for something 2007 to 2011 and only a little more for newer ones.
The DR650 suits a rider with the standard setup of between 5'8" - 6' 2" and with the shock on the lower setting it will suit a rider of 5' 5" (165 CM) or so.
If you need help looking at a bike let me know and I could view it for you, I'm more knowledgeable with the DR's but not so much with the 650GS as far as values and what issues to look for.

I live in the Vancouver area so could help with bikes around here, or in the Fraser Valley only.

David.

Hoi David,

thanks for your reaction. It's nice to know that you want to go and take a look eventually if I find a bike.

I do follow craigslist, so we can keep in touch of nice options there.
I prefer the bmw, the Kawasaki Versus might also be on option, the DR is kind off a risk because of the hight.

Do you know how I can get a licence plate - inssurance once I've got a bike?

kind regard! Keep the rubber on the ground.

I'm pretty sure you just pay your money and you are good to go but there are some exceptions if you are leaving the province permanently.

From the ICBC web site. New to or visiting BC

"For travelling in a B.C.-insured vehicle, B.C. Basic and Optional Autoplan coverage applies only in Canada and the U.S. If you're not a resident of B.C. and/or planning on taking the car outside of B.C. permanently, you may not be able to register it and insure it here. The cost of insurance depends on your claims history, use of the vehicle and where it will be located.
It would be best if you discussed all this with an Autoplan broker."

I will check with my broker and see if they know how it works.

Are you over 25 years old and have 10 years safe driving history without accidents that you can prove with a license abstract from your country, if so you will get better discounts up to 40% if you do.

Regards,

David

There is a real nicely set up DR 650 up the road from me in Campbell River on Vanisle for sale... It is already rigged for travel with a big fuel tank, windscreen, bag racks, tail rack, comfy seat and it has been lowered....

Here is a picture:

Well how tall are you? That DR has been lowered 2" from the stock 35" seat height...

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
