parking motorbike 6 months

Hello people, i am from the Netherlands and going from Ushuaia to Alaska and want to break up my trip in a few 6 months seqments. Shipped my bike to Chile. And first long term parking will be in Lima. From there, going north.

What is the best country to park my motorbike for another 6 months? US, Canada or Mexico?

Sounds like you’re maybe unaware that to the US government, once you enter the US your bike is considered still in the US until you take it further away than Canada or Mexico. It’s unlikely you’ll get caught out, but it’s worth keeping in mind.

Others will have more practical advice….but I wonder if you’ve tried a site search.

In light of what Markharf explained then it would make sense to park your bike somewhere in Mexico before you go into the USA .

That way the USA customs and immigration rules do not apply to you yet .

It does bring up the problem of the Mexican rules about temporary vehicle import permits being valid for no longer than 180 days at a stretch . That would mean that after you enter Mexico and make a tour you would need to find an official work around to put the bike into legal bonded storage to avoid the severe penalty for overstaying a TVIP. Speak to BANJERCITO , the organ which deals with these permits .
In such a case it has been reported by a rider that it does mean the TVIP Security Deposit will be forfeit, and you will face storage charges .
You will fly back to Europe from Mexico , do not go into the USA until you are really going for the ride there .
Your entry to the USA is conditional on having already arranged the visa as to starting date and length , and other papers and permits ahead of time . Do not cross the border for a frivolous short visit . The US border is a very strictly watched and guarded process , very unlike the intra-European ( Schengen Accord ) borders .
After the six months when you return to Mexico you would have to contact the authorities to get the bike released and then they will probably issue a short-term ( six days or so ) TVIP to let you ride the bike to a Mexico- USA border crossing to there officially check the bike out of the country at BANJERCITO.

A sneaky way around all this might be to cancel the TVIP at a Mexican border exit to the USA in one of the northern border-free-zones after finding someone there willing to let you park it in their shed for the six months . Riding a foreign plated bike in the Mexican border free zone ( "no hassel zone ") for a day is not a big issue .
You then need to buy a ticket and fly out of Mexico back to Schiphol.
Six months later you can return direct to Mexico and travel to the bike and go straight into the USA with it . Having already cancelled the TVIP you still have the FMM (tourist visa card ) to cancel , but if you do not bother doing that you will have no need no make contact with Mexican authorities , it is not a big deal if you ignore that step .

Timing of the USA and Canada segment is of course important considering the northern hemisphere winter and shoulders cold season to be avoided . Most of Mexico is ridable year round if you keep in mind to avoid the northern high country during the December through to March period.
