Hi Andy,
My first question is are you sure that you want to send your bike over? If you have a low cost bike like an old Transalp, it'll cost you more to ship it there and back than you can buy one in Canada or the US.
If you want to get an idea of prices to compare shippng to buying, check out craigslist.com for used prices, the US is cheaper than Canada to buy bikes.
Also, with a local bike it'll be straightforward to insure. At the end of your trip, you can easily just sell the bike, which is not possible if you bring in a foreign bike.

buy a transalp in Canada
I live in the Caribbean and decided to buy an '89 Transalp in Seattle (had it trucked to Vancouver)...paid about 3200 USD..there are some for sale at various times. The difficulty is getting the insurance/registration but BC has temporary insurance (up to 90 days I believe). wish you luck...I'm looking forward to getting back on mine for trip down to Oregon and Northern California..sometime this summer.

Hi Andy!
Habe gerade deine Geschichte hier gelesen.
Tobi

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
