TAT GPS Maps & time of year
Dear All,
Im setting of to ride the Trans America Train in June and there seems to be two GPS map systems available. One from transamtrail.com who charge $240 for the complete tracks and the other from GPS Kevin Adventures who are free.
Everyone likes a bargain, but I also believe in you get what you pay for, but I'm also being a tad cynical. Has anyone had experience of these two sources and also any experience of traveling the TAT at this time of year, I am conscience that some of the high passes in Colorado and Utah my be a problem?
Many thanks for your thoughts and information.

Some of the folks over on ADVrider discussed this issue a little while back and it's still current. There are some differences in the routes. As someone who lives and rides in TN, I think Sam's new route is MUCH better than the old one. Here is a link to that discussion. Quite a few points are raised and addressed. It may be a good starting place for you. Good luck on the trip!!

My favorite quote from the thread:
Quote:
It's awesome and the reason why is not because of whos name is listed as the track creator; the reason is because I'm riding, seeing places I've never been, meeting people with amazing stories to share and being challenged with situations that can't be planned for.
4000 miles in; 8000 miles left to shoot for.

Be sure to check out the Trip planning/Americas section over there, too. There's good information about that route in that time of the year.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
