Great website by the way, I've planned loads of stuff based on advice on here.
Happy riding

Our paths might cross ! - I'm over there from end Aug to end Oct (roughly) and covering much the same ground in much the same frame of mind. I'll keep an eye out for your bikes - and if you see a beige GoldWing and a Triumph, err, something or other, on New Jersey plates come and say hello. Actually there will probably be thousands of those but I'll try and put some id stickers on the Wing - any ideas on country stickers the Americans are always pleased to see (or more importantly which ones should I avoid :thumb down

Buy some donuts or a cake for the staff. Tip the dealer? You must be joking

A brew, donuts, or a gift card are the best suggestions IMHO... "Atta boys" are always appreciated!

Some good advice here. I think if a particular employee did something special - say a mechanic works late to get your broken-down bike back on the road, that might be worth a gift card or something similar.
Rest assured that the owner of the biz is factoring a nice slice of profit into the cost he charges you.

If you were charged more than $250.00 inbound freight for each motorcycle, than the dealer made his tip, big time. If he charged you more than $150.00 prep, then the dealer made his tip, big time. You will also be charged a sales tax on the bikes, which will add up to about a $1000.00 so you have also tipped the state you bought the bikes in.
I never tip dealers. If I like them I give them more of my business.
Out here in the Inland Empire these cutthroat dealers are actually charging $950.00 transportation and $350.00 prep for new bikes. That's $800.00 off the top profit besides what the motorcycles profit was.

I like the cake idea. You can have a cake made at some grocery store or a bakery for not a whole lot of money and it still shows your appreciation.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
