Almaty - Cheap stay options?
I hear on the grapevine that Almaty is expensive to stay in, but we need to get our Mongolian Visa's under-way so visiting is a must.
Does anyone have recommendations for somewhere to stay with a vehicle? We prefer to camp, but will take a room if its the only option.
We have managed to find places in Ankara, Tbilisi, Dushanbe and Bishkek. Surely someone must know of an Overlander's Haven in Almaty?
Any help appreciated.

Stayed quite a few days there very clean and food up on the main road
Get a room close to the router if you want Internet in the room

Hopefully they have finished the roadworks to the big ring road. It was a bugger to find because of all the detours but the sign on top is easy to spot

Well we didn't stay! Wildcamped 100km out east. got into town and picked up insurance on the outskirts. Got to the Mongolian Embassy by 0900 and walked out with our visa at 0920 (for standard rate!). Fuelled up, got cash and got to the OVIR by 1000, registered by 1100, bought a new portable HDD and had lunch, back on the road by 1300
Ankara: Camped at the Ulasan Hotel 15eu/night
Tbilisi: Nest Hostel £8/night
Dushanbe: Adventurers Inn $8/night
Bishkek: Nomads House $5/night camping

I would, but I cannot get my website or wordpress to work here in Semey! I clear the files off my GPS to make things easier on the road once they are on my blog. There should be a post scheduled for tomorrow with Central Asian places to stay on. Nest hostel is on OSM (and our Georgia blog post) and the Ulasan Hotel is on our Turkey blog post.
Will update when we next get WiFI (UB, Mongolia?)

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
