Anyone travelled on a rear MX tyre?
Ok, so maybe not the right forum to ask this question in but its a start...
Here's my dilemma (well...one of them). I ordered pair of Mitas E-09's from Denis at Motorezina in Moscow for delivery to Irkutsk. He didn't have a 120/18 so I ordered a 140. Having previously used 120/130/140 section rear tyres on both my F650GS and DR650 I didn't think there would be a problem.
However, the Mitas E-09 140/80-18 is the BIGGEST friggin' 140 tyre I've ever seen; its like a superbike tyre. No way is it going on my DRZ400!
So, the choices are a Shinko or IRC MX tyre (plenty of grip but how long will either last?) or a TKC80, which will go the distance but is a crap off-road tyre (at least it is in 17/18/21 sizes).
My plan from here is to ride the Western BAM then the Old Summer Road to Magadan after which I'll backtrack and head to Mongolia.
So, has anyone ever ridden any distance on a MX tyre? What mileage did you get from it?
Cheers
Adam
