A good meeting point in the Torugart Pass?

Hello there,

We're a group of travellers meeting in Kyrgyzstan to cross the Torugart Pass and China together. We don't know each other yet. What's your advice on where to meet?. We are 8 motorbikes.

Thank you all.

That depends where everyone is coming from. At-Bashy has accomodation, amenities and is close enough to cross the pass the same day if you leave At-Bashy early. There are a couple of hotels, as well as a place that organizes home and yurt stays. But this is only a good option if people are coming from the North (Ysik-Kul, Balykchy, Bishkek, etc), otherwise some might have to backtrack.

If you have people in your group that want to travel from Osh/Toktogul eastwards toward Torugat (roads are much worse than the other option, but scenic), I'm not sure if there is a good option. Maybe still At-Bashy, or alternatively meet at the outer Kyrgyz checkpoint at the bottom of Turogat, since you have to be on time for the escort in China anyways ... Finally, there's the Kyrgyz customs at the top of Turogat, but I'm not sure if that's a great idea.

If everyone is coming from the north or through Bishkek, you could meet at the Sakura Guest House in Bishkek. Pretty much everyone who stays in Bishkek will end up there anyways, it's a nice place, especially given the recent renovation, and it has plenty of safe parking. I don't have GPS coordinates, but I'm sure someone one the HUBB has. It's a little north of the Hyatt.

Good place for meeting is Tash Rabat caravanserai. It is about 90 km from the pass. There are yurts for tourists, food and some activities.
I suggest to choose this place.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
