Magadan to Alaska !!!
Hallo there,
I am planning a trip round the world next summer, and the plan is to go Road of Bones, and to Magada. From there I was planning to go to Alaska, but found out that Air Magadan is not flying anymore. Do you have any suggestions !

I would suggest finding your way to Korea and then fly yourself and your bike to Seattle or Vancouver from there. The roads in Canada and Alaska are fast and paved with little traffic. You are in Alaska in a week.
You can go north through BC and come back to the USA through the Canadian Rockies or vice versa. If you get to Wisconsin in the USA you can stay at my house.
Probably I won't be there(traveling myself) but still no problem. I do not lock the doors. Tools in the garage/ride in basement. And maybe my ex-wife.
Bill.

Airline
In the summer of 2006 the airline that flies from Magadan to Anchorage went bust (shut down).
I (and John) ended up flying our bikes south to Vladivostok and then east to LA.
There was talk of the flights starting again....phone Igor on +1 907 248 2994 (he works in Anchorage and knows about the flights)

RF to US
In mid 1999 we had booked a flight on a tiny Alaskan bi-plane or something from Chukotka to Nome but could not reach Chukotka 'cos of the rouble crisis and no transport. But we improvised and got a flight from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskaya to Anchorage on a small Alaskan jet with fewer passengers than hostesses (post rouble crisis) so we were asked the whole trip if we wanted to eat, drink etc!!! We saw an awful lot of volcanos very close-up! And over-consumed, so it was bad when arriving at Anchorage near midnight to have to eat all our 'expensive' Russian fruit to prevent confiscation!

Another route !
Hallo guys,
I finished my ride around the world this summer, ( Round The World - sverrirt.blog.is) and because of the shipping problem from Magadan, I changed route and went to Vladivostok, and took a ferry from there to Japan. I then airfreighted the bike from Tokyo to Anchorage in Alaska. I then took the scheduled flight to Achorage via Seattle.

how easy was it to alight at Japan then get the bike air frieghted - did you have to get a carnet?
What were the costs involved?
Thanks

Lazer Kid,.. you mentioned a flight from Vladivostock to LA in 2006. We're trying to get from Vlad to USA/Canada (Sept 2008),.. preferably not via Japan or Korea, so if you have any details of that 'route/carrier',.. it would be much appreciated. Cheers,
Geoff
