Mongolia itinerary help, 4 weeks, two-up
My girlfriend and I will be heading to Ulaanbaatar in a couple weeks with the plan of buying a bike to ride for 4 weeks and then sell before we leave Mongolia. We are experienced riders, did India to Spain a few years back on an old Enfield, so we are well aware of the moto touring landscape in this part of the world.
But we know little about Mongolia and would love any ideas for itineraries. I would say we are probably more interested in the central and northern areas, but if its possible to sneak in a little desert time too that would be great.
Things that might matter....we will be riding two up, we will be restricted to buying a smaller bike, probably something like a 250 cc dirt bike, we have all our camping gear, would love to do lots of tracks and stay off pavement plenty (as long as its do-able two up on a smaller bike), and most importanly for timing...like I said we would have about 26 days total starting and finishing in Ulaanbattar.
Any help or advice is much appreciated.

Hi
Hi,
I can't help with your question at the moment. When are you going to be in UB? There will be four of us in UB around the 2/Jul in Oasis Guesthouse if you want to meet up. The four of will likely be doing two different routes in pairs so could of small bits of information to help you.
I've looked at YouTube videos to get ideas and stopped at that, sick of researching up on places to be let down when I get there. I'd rather discover it for my own thoughts not others.
Lee.

Currently riding from UB to Oglie, using central route. On Pegaso Trails, one up and camping gear. The weather can change, tent flattened by a sandstorm 3 nights ago. Once the asphalt ends there is a lot of sand.
If you were one up, then the small bike would be good. But two up with all the gear ?????
I believe there is an Africa Twin that might be available at Oasis (or was it a Trans All ?). Left by Bruno.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
