Well I recently crossed from Tashanta to Olgi.
At the boarder it was hassle free, except the insurance, which I paid a little to much.
Then on our way a nice looking guy wanted to invite us to his Ger for a tea.
We apologized for not having the time to join him. He left very quick but just to wave at us on the road to Olgi and pretending to have a bike problem. We waved back an rode on
The a little further some guys on a motorbike wved for fuel. Caution, they take children wirh them to build up confidence, we waved back and rode on.
Those two tries to wave us down were clearly scams...
We don´t know what would have happend, we didn´t risk anything and don´t let us wave down on the street...
Then we arrived in Olgi, and immeadetely we were followed by a car wirh two guys in it. And this was bloody dangerous, as this ass...le was driving next to me and trying to stop me while pretending to bump into my bike. He was really threatening me. It was awfully dangerous and it could have easily hapened that he bumped me off my bike. Very, very, very aggresive and threatening it was.
I didn´t even look at him, I just was concentrating on my path and riding my way, as if he wasn´t there. It would have been impossible to look after him and my pace. His actions were unpredictable.
Once arrived at the blus wulf Ger camp he immeadetely drove off.
Just to be replaced by another car. A well known guy with his wife, child and baby in the car was asking if I look for accomodation. With a question mark in my face I looked at him as I was clearly entering the blue wulf Ger camp...
I said I will stay here, and clearly not go with him to beeing robbed during the night, and how his jaw and teeth were doing. They looked quite well. With pure hooror in his face he hurried away like he saw a devil...We were laughing for quite a while.
Olgi was a truly shitty place for us. We stayed two nights, visited the town, the market, and met some nice people though.
But as we left the town we had to stock up on fuel and supplies. And we were clearly observed by some guys with phones, who were talking about us.
As we missed our way out of the city and took some backroads (my GPS had an error) they lost the pace of us.
Again a very scary experience. We don´t know if this was a mere paranoiy or for real a threat.
But we all felt very uncomfortable in the city, not relaxed and always very aware and checking the surrounding when moving in town.
So be aware and awake there. Don´t stop for any reason on your way to Olgi and stay on your pace to a save place, even if you´re threatened by aaggresive drivers. don´t even look at them!!!
Stay save and keep the rubber side down...
P.S.: that was ca. 3 weeks ago. We´are in Ulan Ude now and gladly made it out of Mongolia on the election day (no alcohol was sold that day, but everyone was drunk...)
