MOVED POST crashed in russia - parts
end of july, i started what i hoped to be an RTW! i started from reston, virginia just outside washington, dc, drove to toronto, canada, flew with the bike to frankfurt, germany. then drove to russia through czech republic, Poland, and ukraine to meet my friends in rostov-on-don. long story short, few days later i crashed just outside of saratov on the way to kazakhstan border. i mini bus cut me off and i slammed to the back door. due to extensive damage to the bike, my injuries, and hard to meet schedule for the kyrgyzstan-china group border crossing, i had to call it off
i was riding metallic orange 2010 BMW F800GS i just bought for this trip. the front of the bike is totally damaged and require a lot of parts. i need help finding the most cost-effective way to get the parts, maybe if somebody has a salvaged F800GS and willing to sell me the parts i need. any help is greatly appreciated!
the following is the list of the parts i need:
Front Bridge Assembly
Front Panel Carrier
Front Wheel Cover
Front Wheel Fender
Headlight Cover with Glass
Fairing Side Section, Front
Thanks!

Sorry to hear about your trip, that really sucks! Good to hear that you sound to be more or less in one piece.
Sorry I can't help you with the parts, I don't know anyone here with an 800. You know that there is a BMW dealer in Rostov, right? They might know of some salvaged bikes.
Where are you now?

Unless they happen to have a wrecked bike on their hands (doubtful) I seriously doubt that they will have the parts on hand, or that you'll be able to get them in less than 30-45 days.
So if I were you, I would be making plans to ship the bike out of Russia. One key issue: how long is your temporary import certificate valid? I would really try to get the bike out before it expires, it might be more of a pain to get it out otherwise. Where is the bike now?
Regarding your other thread on shipping: your best place to look for info would be here on the HUBB. I've never shipped internationally and don't know anyone who has; while it is probably possible, the people on this site will probably know better than people here on the ground. I recall seeing threads on this topic here, but don't recall if the posters found the info that they were seeking.

Thank you so much motoriter! I will contact them in rostov. Do you know if there are dealers in saratov? Also, in Moscow since I have to pass through Moscow anyway.
I can't find validity date on the temporary import certificate! It has a sticker with a bar-code on the back. Do you know how to check for validity date?
I really appreciate your help as I have limited access to the Internet!
Regards,
Karwan

Hi Tobi,
The bike is not mobile due to extensive front damage, especially the front bridge assembly. I'm not mobile either. Thats not me in the picture, it is my friend and co-rider. I would love to continue, but I have to be on Chinese border in Kyrgyzstan on Sep 5th for a group crossing, which is not possible. I'm weighing the option of Georgia, Turkey, Iran, and catchup with my friends in Pakistan if possible.
Best Regards,
Karwan

Temporary Vehicle Permit
Assuming it was issued by Russia and not one of the other members of the customs union, the expiry date is the shorter of 3 months from entry or your visa validity.
The actual expiry date is in the top right of the 'bar code sticker' after the word 'Срок', shown as a string of numbers
As an example Срок: 12092012 - being 12 September 2012. Note:dates are in the DDMMYYYY format.
BMW Dealers
There are Motorrad dealers in Moscow, StPeterburg, Rostov-on-Dom, Ekaterinburg and Krasnoyarsk. Details are -
Мотоциклы BMW в России
Click on " Следующая страница" for the second page of the list.
I find they do not have a wide range of parts, just service items and the more regular 'wear and usage' replacement items. Other parts get imported from Germany to order.

No dealers in Saratov as far as I know, although I expect that there is a BMW car dealer there, and maybe they could order moto parts?
There are several BMW dealers in Moscow, but I don't think they will do you much good, as they almost certainly won't have the parts. The BMW dealers here rely on a central database/warehouse for parts, so I don't think that one dealer would have access to parts that another did not.

Hi Karwan,
Saw your post over on ADVrider and tried to send you a PM, not sure if you received it.
I have most if not all the parts you need to get your bike going again, get in touch with me.
Cheers,
Lukas
