I couldn't find anything about an arrest online, but here is a link to an interesting article in Russian:
ИТАР-ТАСС : Основная версия убийства японского байкера в Забайкалье связана с корыстными мотивами
Unfortunately I don't have time to translate it, but a couple of interesting points:
--There was a snowstorm in the area on the night of May 22; some electrical workers saw the victim that evening and suggested that he move somewhere else, but could not make themselves understood;
--the next morning his moto was found in the village, and the local "mayor" notified the police, who soon found the body in a field near the road.
--as of the time of the article, more than 1000 potential witnesses had been interviewed, and they were looking for more drivers who might have seen something along the road.
--apparently the victim was an experienced traveler who had been to Europe, Africa, and India.
Elsewhere I saw that the governor of the region has taken personal control over the investigation. If nothing else, it appears that the Russian authorities are taking this crime very seriously.

yes martin(navalarchitect) shit happens,but when some body looses their life for no reason whatsoever other than because some body didn't like the look of them is pretty sad.
i came across a lot of racism when i travelled to mongolia a few years back but funny most of it was in europe,both in west and east.Of course my traveling companion who was white had a very different experience from me.

Japanese news is saying that two local men, ages 20 and 21, were arrested. the 20 year old has admitted the crime.
According to the article, the culprits met the victim evening of the 21st and and came to rob him before dawn on the 22nd. They dragged him tent and all into the forest after murdering him, but a car came by close and frightened them, so they ran away without taking anything. Investigators are looking for other accomplices.

Same old sad story; a couple of village idiots decide they can pick up a few bucks by murdering someone before thinking about the fact that their chances of getting caught are close to 100%. Did these morons think no one in the village would notice the stolen items?
It sounds like the victim camped on the road between the highway and this village. I think the main lesson is to stay as far away from any inhabited point when camping (and hope the bears don't get you).

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
