Sibiria: Omsk-Tobolsk-road along Irtysch

Has anyone already done the road along the bends of the Irtysch-river from Omsk via Krasnoyarskij, Tara and Tevris to Tobolsk (Omskaya oblast and Tyumenskaya oblast) in summer time? Paved? Good gravel? Or "let it be..."?

Here is what I found out so far: as expected most of the road is in fact unpaved and obviously not recommended to be driven after a longer period of rain. There are svereal gas stations along the 600km way and even two Hotels - one in Bolscheretschje (N56° 05' 44.0" E74° 38' 16.0") and the other in Tara (N56° 53' 29.5" E74° 23' 00.0").

So we will try it this summer...

I've looked at that route a couple of times but never done it. It seems to be a formal road so it should be in decent condition, but you never know. There will certainly be some friendly small towns to enjoy and probably some old churches, as this was the first route into Siberia (along the rivers, before there were roads). There should also be a ferry service on the river.

Take lots of mosquito repellent and please report back when you've completed the road

Boah... looks like we could be some of the first here riding a certain road in Siberia?!?!

Never thought so...

Leaving home in April the Silkroad, Pamir and Mongolia will come first and take their time so you guys must wait for our siberian report until August (promised!!! ).

@eurasiaoverland: repellent plus head-nets!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
