Southern Siberia/Altai Border Permits?
Hi,
I'm wondering if anybody knows about the current state of border permits within Southern Siberia? I'm looking at taking an offroad route starting in Gorno-Altaisk and ending in Irkutsk.
I understand that there is a checkpoint in Mondy and that I may also need to collect an Altai permit in Gorno-Altaisk. Is that right? Are there any other necessary papers? I will also skirt a little bit in to Tuva (passing near Sug-Aksy and Ak-Dovurak). Other than that I shouldn't be hitting any major towns.
Can anyone recommend a good company to deal with any necessary paperwork? I was dealing with one a while ago and then they went cold on me saying they couldn't help any more for whatever reason... I understand most/all need you to purchase some additional services but as it's an independent trip and I've got my visa sorted, all I need is the paperwork. I've heard you can also just fax the necessary paperwork ahead (such as for Mondy border) which I've got the form for - is this effective?
Thanks for your input!
Kind regards,
Matt Traver
