Unleaded? Somtimes, somewhere. Better forget about catalysator. Leave it in UK.
From what I've read, the advice on Altitude Sickness seems to be to try wherever possible to sleep at as low an altitude as possible - so pretty much fits with your comment about Kyzyl Art pass and Murgab. Guess different people are more prone to problems than others!

1. You have to observe yourself
2. Visit Song Kul in Kyrgyzstan and spent 2-3 nights there, it is over 3000 meters and will help you to adapt to altitude. (Song Kul is worth to spend a life there)
3. Stay for a while on Kyzyl Art ( you will have to because there is a Tajik post there) if you will feel ok maybe it is good idea to camp near Karakol - sunrise is amazing near the lake...
