That is a truly spectacular route, I travelled that way through Tibet to Nepal a few years ago with friends in their Landcruiser and as the article says it is one of the most dramatic roads on earth, but you do still need to be with an organised tour company and have a guide to travel along it unfortunately.

Foreign travelers are permitted to travel solo or with family and friends, but still must be on an organized tour
Do I understand correctly I can go solo?
Will I still have to pay the 100USD per day?

Greetings
Wauschi

You will have to pay whatever the tour company wants for taking a solo traveller which could be that much or more, I would get in contact with one of the companies which people on here have used and get a price.

Tibet is pr definition China as China occupied Tibet and then "incoperated" Tibet in their own state. China called it the "liberation of Tibet" (As China did also had done with whats known as the Xinyang province today) So Tibet is China nowadays - and thus you will need the same requirements going into or through Tibet as China. I belive there are even stricter rules going into Tibet than going into other provinces of China.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
