Really interesting Neill, as I've just started a much more modest conversion based on a RB44
Did you ever consider a RB44?
Thanks for posting :-)

This is a fine job...Wish you many km with that beauty...!!
One question, how much was the total cost of the truck and the truck build conversion?

Actually I didn't consider an RB. Its one of those vehicles that I only became familiar with recently.
They look pretty tough.

Are you still in the UK?
When are you off on your trip?

often RB44s on here
MOD Sales, Military Vehicles & Used Ex MOD Land Rovers for Sale
but beware of their descriptions, they tend to be somewhat 'optimistic'! I have seen landrovers described as in good condition which when I went to look at them had terminal structural corrosion that wouldn't pass an MOT
I never heard anything good about RB44s in the military, only negatives (although nothing beyond 'they're shite!'). Never driven one myself though. IT wasn't on my shopping list as an overlander, partly due to parts availability, but also because they are too big compared to something like a landrover, but not really big enough to be a useful camper, although for 2 peeps they would probably be ok.

I was lucky. I found an RB44 that was in reserve storage in Cypress for 15 years. Chassis and bodywork looked brand new. Some sun damage to plastics.
Currently getting it registered with DVLA.
It has the comms box body which will be fine for 2 pax
