The regretful sale of my 130 300TDi defender, 170 000 original kms, i built her for a world wide overland trip starting in sth africa and winding my way up the west coast but only got as far as Ghana! i have unexpectedly bought land here to build an eco lodge, I would love nothing more than to keep her here but the unfortunate reason why i can't is that she is a right hand drive, which is easily converted! but the duty taxes here in ghana are absolutely ridiculous, and i need the cash to continue building my lodge!
she has plenty of aftermarket goodies for where it counts when going off road on long remote journeys.
EXTERNAL;
a huge aftermarket intercooler which was professionally installed and fuel pump adjusted by a Landrover freak in OZ that will surprise you on how much grunt and torque you will get out of a TDI with out the hassles of a computer.
Front and Rear ARB air diff lockers with in board compressor which will inflate up to 60 Psi,also with hose and fittings for easy tyre inflation and rear airbag suspension bladders to cope with heavy loads and to take the strain off the coils.
OME suspension and heavy duty coils all round.
120 ltr long range fuel tank and jerry holders (see explained)
2x60 ltr water tanks under rear tray
MD heavy duty hud drives all round and rear axles.
ARB bull bar
ARB roof top tent, with extendable full enclosed awning with access to rear seats which is mounted on aluminium roof rack with halogen spots on either side for night off road driving
complete lockable canopy on aluminium tray with ample of storage, internal 12 volt halogen lights, internal roof top storage box,
aluminium roof rack on top with 4x jerry holders and for different weather conditions when side doors are open, canvas rolls down as awning for rain conditions or extended out with tent poles for extra shade in the heat on both sides.
powder coated side step scrub bars
on the back are two jerry holders and spare tyre rack
on the bonnet is another spare tyre rack
i replaced the chassis in malawi which was virtually brand new, and when i had everything out the heads were machined with new gasket, lift pump, fly wheel.
in australia i replaced the power steering pump, water pump, In south africa i replaced the front CV's and in congo replaced rear stub axles and wheel bearings all round
Hayman Reece tow bar on back
5 cooper STT 235/85 16 inch tyres with 60% tread that are a little tired because she was standing for a little while here in ghana whilst i went back to OZ. but they go forever!
INTERNAL;
airconditioning needs gas plus i think a exhaust fan would make a difference.
front doors are central locking with alarm/immobilisor
front centre console lockable metal strong box custom made out of 2mm gauge plate steel that you will not break into.
under rear seat i have converted access doors as lockable doors for storage with a electronic digital safe which you will also not get into or pull out forever because i used black cycoflex
t junction roof top storage console in the front, and full back storage console above passengers heads for map and book storage with pioneer speakers all covered in marine carpet
woolen seat covers on front seats
compressor mounted underneath drivers seat with easy accessible hose connection at front
sound and heat proofing under rubber and carpeted mats on all the interior,
full dark tint on every window all round.
it is set up for dual battery but after sitting for a while, they are ruined! so at the moment there is only one battery but all you have to do is add another one as wiring is already there.
and there are plenty of spare parts! uni joints, wheel bearings, water pump, hoses, fan belts etc....
BAD THINGS!
there was some small rust under the drivers window on fire wall, and side door pinion but i had it cut out and now is fine
there are no real scratches at all but one small dent on passenger front and rear door where people don't know how to close the door properly,
and another small dent on left front quarter panel about 7 inches long but hardly visible.
small oil weep in one of the hubs
gear box has a small weep
clutch slave cylinder i have to top up once a month.
tiny leak in rear diff bung
but a landrover is a landrover!!!!!
back canopy needs 4 new light weight struts.
i am not selling her with the winch, front spot lights, recovery boards, high lift jack or traveling gear as i need them here at my lodge as it all 12 volt gear.
i know this car inside out and look after her and service her every 5000 kms
she is built for off roading and a long overland journey, or a heavy work car. she is not a run around city car, she was registered in Australia and on a carnet de passage, but i let it lapse, and she is running on Queensland plates.
i would not hesitate in driving her back down through africa or to continue my journey around the world or even back up to europe. all you need are some basic camping gear! which you can buy here in ghana, like stove, cooler box, plates, pots and pans and some tools and your on your way through the sahara or the equator.
that's about it! if you have any questions! fire away. i have just taken plenty of current photos a few days ago so if you send me an email i can send them to you. if you want to have a quick look at my site i haven't updated it for a while but it is
